Answer
To date, approximately 18,000 Operation Encompass notifications have been made by the PSNI. This sharing of relevant information to the designated staff at the pupil’s education setting allows for the setting to effectively take account of the needs of the child, and any impact that the incident may have had on them; and to provide support to that child, where appropriate. The effectiveness of Operation Encompass has been further supported by the rollout of training to all statutory education settings.
Ongoing review of the process is important. The EA is currently analysing responses to a survey undertaken across statutory education settings to better understand the delivery of the Operation Encompass initiative. Initial findings confirm this has been a positive initiative in supporting children and young people affected by domestic abuse. My officials will consider the outcome from the EA analysis of the survey and this will determine whether further action is required.
