To ask the Minister for the Economy whether he will consider strengthening childcare subsidies for students with childcare responsibilities.

I recognise the rising cost of childcare and the impact this has on families who are already struggling with the cost of living. I also recognise that the high cost of childcare prevents many parents, particularly mothers, from working.

My Department currently provides a suite of pathways for childcare training and qualifications through Further and Higher Education, and through vocational qualifications like apprenticeships and traineeships. I have asked my officials to carry out an audit of what we have to offer in this area. This audit will help us determine any gaps in provision or if there is a need for additional financial assistance.
