Answer
My Department’s review of the extant Serious Adverse Incidents (SAI) Procedure is progressing.
To appropriately inform and shape the draft proposals, my officials have collaborated and extensively engaged with a number of key stakeholders. My Department has taken the necessary time to consider in detail the range of comments and feedback received from these stakeholders, and to ensure that where appropriate, relevant points have been taken account of in the draft proposals.
The draft proposals describe the high-level strategic approach to learning from Patient Safety Incidents and aim to rebalance and reframe the current approach, moving away from a prescriptive procedure towards a set of overarching principles supported by more detailed guidance documents.
My Department will be launching a 12-week public consultation on the draft Framework and supporting documentation in the coming weeks. This is an important opportunity, which will enable an even wider range of interested individuals and groups to input to, and comment on, the proposed approach.
