Answer

The Minister for Infrastructure’s confirmation that the Antrim Road will be the preferred route for Belfast Rapid Transit Phase 2 (BRT2) has provided some clarity regarding the Clifton Gateway Public Realm Scheme.

Officials are currently engaging with counterparts in the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to explore potential opportunities for joint delivery of the Clifton Gateway improvements alongside BRT2 infrastructure, recognising the strategic significance of this corridor.

Subject to feasibility and funding, a coordinated approach could allow both projects to progress in tandem, minimising disruption for residents, businesses, and road users, while maximising the impact and value of public investment.

At present, there is no confirmed timescale for delivery of the Clifton Gateway scheme, as it remains subject to the conclusion of ongoing discussions with DfI.
