Answer
The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust has advised as follows:
Chestnut Grove is a Belfast HSC Trust (BHSCT) statutory residential home situated on Somerton Road in North Belfast. Since 2015, BHSCT have used this facility to accommodate intermediate care patients discharging from acute hospital sites, to undergo rehabilitation. The facility is registered with RQIA.
Chestnut Grove provides step-down to hospitals and facilitates rehabilitation as part of Intermediate Care Services. There are no long-term residents within Chestnut Grove and it is an essential discharge pathway for BHSCT acute hospital sites. Owing to the ongoing demand for acute hospital beds, the Trust’s current strategic direction is to continue to use this building to provide bed-based rehabilitation services. It is therefore a requirement to ensure the building is fit for purpose. The building has been undergoing major refurbishment since December 2024.
The cost of the ongoing capital work at Chestnut Grove is £2,188,680 and the planned completion is December 2026.
