Answer
My Department’s approach to parking enforcement is regularly reviewed to ensure consistent and proportionate enforcement across all areas, including greater Belfast. Enforcement is based on factors such as the type of restrictions, demand for enforcement, street profile, Parking Charge Notice trends, and feedback from Traffic Attendants.
Cavehill Road and Shandarragh Park is not currently included within a routine daily enforcement schedule, however, my Department adopts a flexible approach and, where issues are identified and resources permit, enforcement activity can be adjusted in response. As such, officials have arranged for random enforcement visits over the coming weeks to identify any issues, encourage compliance and improve parking behaviour.
Following my announcement to introduce a ban across the North on parking a vehicle wholly on the footway, parking across dropped kerbs and double parking, my officials are currently taking forward the necessary work to develop the secondary legislation to introduce these new measures. It is my aim to introduce these changes in the latter part of 2026, subject to the legislative process.
