Answer
My Department identifies actionable defects for repair through regular routine highway safety inspections and through public reporting via the online Report a Fault system. Defects are categorised using a range of options and a priority is set based on the severity of safety risk to the public. An instruction has been issued to the contractor to repair the damage and this will not be included in their programme of work.
Road markings which are in need of refreshment are identified through these safety inspections and passed to our external contractor for renewal. Road markings are not replaced within a routine/specific time frame, rather when a proportion of the marked area is found to be ineffective or worn away. Repairs are prioritised to concentrate on regulatory road markings, such as stop lines, and those longitudinal lines necessary for continued road safety.
Our external Road Lining Contractors are currently completing a programme of works to refresh road markings which have been designated for repair. This work includes the yellow box markings on the Antrim Road leading to Sandyknowes roundabout.
In the meantime, officials will continue to inspect and repair any actionable defects in line with my Department’s Limited Service Policy.
